Susan G. Komen New England is pleased to announce the inaugural Sisters for the Cure – Connecticut event, happening on March 28, 2020 at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bridgeport, CT.
In the United States, breast cancer mortality rates for Black and African American women are about 40% higher than Caucasian women — and African American women are often diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer when treatment options are limited, costly and the prognosis is poor. This is unacceptable, and we are working to change these outcomes. Sisters for the Cure Connecticut is an opportunity for Black and African American women in our community to come together, learn more about breast cancer and their risk factors, connect with local resources and each other, and be empowered to advocate for their personal health.
At the Sisters for the Cure event, we will be honoring Black women we have lost to breast cancer through our Angel Wall. This wall will be a focal point of our event. If you’d like to donate in honor of a loved one to have their name added to the Angel Wall, you may do so when you register for the event.
