Community Profile of Breast Health
The Community Profile is a comprehensive community needs assessment that guides our priorities and work more effectively within the community. The needs assessment includes an overview of demographic and breast cancer statistics that highlight target areas, groups or issues. The local tumor registry at the Department of Public Health provided quantitative data that helped identify areas affected with high incidence, high late-stage diagnosis, and high mortality from breast cancer. Qualitative data brought to light barriers women across socioeconomic backgrounds experience when attempting to access early detection and treatment services.
Conducted every four years, the Community Profile guides informed decisions on how the Affiliate can use its resources to make the greatest impact on breast cancer in the area through the awarding of local grants for education, screening and treatment programs. Funding for local grants is then aligned with the most significant needs in the community.
